The Maxwell Wedding Photographer — Raleigh, NC
Built in 2021 four miles from downtown Raleigh, and one of the very few Triangle venues that publishes its Indian wedding pricing openly on its own website — two-day packages, sangeet-only rates, the lot. Eighteen-foot vaulted ceilings, a fifteen-foot brick fireplace, and a private walled garden behind it. Whether a havan or sacred fire is permitted is not stated anywhere in The Maxwell's published material, and neither is a rain backup plan or a drone policy. Ask all three directly. One published detail catches people out: the venue's chairs may not be used outdoors, so outdoor ceremony seating is a rental.
Where the photographs happen
The Great Room
Eighteen-foot vaulted ceilings over a fifteen-foot white-washed brick fireplace with a reclaimed oak mantel, oversized statement chandeliers, an exposed steel beam and real natural light. The ceiling height is what matters for a mandap — most rooms this size in Raleigh are twelve feet and a tall mandap fills the frame awkwardly. The lighting is on dimmers, which means we can actually control the room rather than working around it.
The Lounge
A sixteen-foot custom herringbone accent wall, milled from a 123-year-old oak that stood on this property before the venue was built. Exposed beams, modern chandeliers, dimmable lighting and plenty of windows. This is the cocktail-hour room and the best interior portrait wall in the building.
The walled garden
Six thousand square feet of private lawn framed by mature magnolias, hydrangeas and a clipped hedge, with a tree line behind. Copper gas lanterns and market lights over the patio carry it after dark. This is the outdoor ceremony spot and the golden-hour location, and being walled means no neighbors and nothing to crop out.
The Private Suite
One room, and it is a good one — vanity, full-length mirror, dress racks, lounge seating and its own bathroom. Worth knowing there is only one, so if both sides want getting-ready coverage we plan the morning around sharing it.
Timing your day here
- Eleven pm is hard and it is the city's rule, not the venue's. Music off at 11, vendors gone by midnight. Build the whole day backwards from that.
- Access starts at 11am with six hours of guest access. The venue will build a custom rental timeline around auspicious timings if you ask — it says so in writing.
- Ceremony — in the garden 90 minutes to two hours before sunset, or indoors in the Great Room in front of the fireplace if the weather turns.
- Couple portraits — the garden in the last half hour of daylight, then the Lounge oak wall and the Great Room chandeliers once it is dark.
- Reception — the Great Room, with the lighting on dimmers so the room can be shaped rather than just lit.
Why The Maxwell is worth a shortlist for an Indian wedding
Very few Triangle venues put their South Asian wedding terms in public. The Maxwell has a dedicated Indian weddings page and it answers the real questions:
- It names its Indian caterers. Zayka, Urban Angeethi and Lemon & Lime are on the approved list, and the venue says its other preferred caterers will do authentic Indian or fusion menus. It is equally clear that it will not make exceptions to the list, so if your family caterer is not on it, that is settled before you start.
- Multi-day pricing is published. Two-day packages run from about $16,500 for Sunday and Monday up to about $22,800 for Friday and Saturday, each with its own beverage minimum. Single-day and sangeet-only rates are published too. Almost nobody does this.
- No separate ceremony fee.
- The baraat is accounted for — the venue's own sample two-day schedule puts the baraat at 9am ahead of a 10am ceremony, and it lists baraat among the Great Room's intended uses. No written procession policy or fee is published.
- A planner from their list is required, and for a multi-day Indian wedding they point at Harmony Weddings or Uthsaav. On a celebration this size that is not a burden — it means we have someone to run the timeline with.
- The sacred fire question is unanswered. The only fire rule published is that candles must be enclosed in glass. If you need a havan, get it in writing before you book.
- Be honest about numbers. The venue itself says it is most comfortable at 225 guests once a mandap and staging are in the room. If your list is 400, this is the wrong room.

- What does an Indian wedding at The Maxwell cost?

Single-day ceremony and reception runs about $8,500 to $13,800, and a sangeet-only day about $5,500 to $10,800. There is no separate ceremony fee. Confirm current figures with the venue.
- What time does the music have to stop?
- 11:00pm, because of the city noise ordinance. Guest access is six hours, the venue opens to you at 11am, and vendors must be packed and off site an hour after the reception ends.
- How many guests can The Maxwell hold?
- Up to about 275 seated indoors depending on layout, and up to about 300 in the garden. For an Indian wedding the venue says it is most comfortable at 225 once staging, a mandap and a rain plan are factored in, with more possible if you tent the lawn.
- Can we have a havan or sacred fire?
